For many young people, traditional subject options have limited their
opportunities when it comes to jobs, training, further and higher education.
An expanding range of qualifications now gives them a much greater choice of
progression routes. These include new sector-related Diplomas, which may
also involve study towards academic qualifications such as GCSEs or
'A' Levels.
Focus on Careers in the Somerset has been developed to support all young

Careers Learning Resources
A series of careers lesson plans were added to this site in Autumn 2008. Topics covered include Occupational
Areas, the National Qualifications Framework, Employability Skills, Job Trends and Routes into Higher Education.
